Fall Property Care Guide
Cooler temperatures, tailgating, pumpkin spiced everything, caramel apples, trick-or-treating, and everyone’s favorite: leaf clean up! Right? Well, fall clean-up and leaf removal may not be anyone’s favorite, but it is a critical time for lawn care. Removing your leaves in the fall is an essential step for the health of your lawn and plants. However you choose to battle the ever falling leaves, here is a fall property care guide, perfect for staying on top of your residential or commercial lawn and plantings.
Fall Property Care Guide:
Fall Weeds
Some weeds thrive in the fall. Getting these weeds pulled early helps to keep them from getting out of control. Properly removing these weeds also prevents the bigger battle in spring. Make it easier on yourself and tackle the weeds now or let Weiss Property Management deal with fall weed growth.
Leaves
Plan on removing leaves at least twice each fall. Too many leaves for extended periods of time slows down grass growth. If possible, promptly remove the leaves as they fall, or call WPM and they will take care of the hassle for you.
Trimming & Pruning
Fall is the best time of year to take care of trimming bushes and pruning trees. Wait until the trees drop their leaves and are dormant. Pruning trees is a mid-late November through December activity. Plus, as temperatures cool, it’s more enjoyable to be out doing yard work than it is in the sizzling summer sun.
Planting
Before the ground freezes, plant perennials or dig up and divide larger perennials. Planting shrubs, trees, and spring-blooming bulbs in fall will help establish a root system for spring growth. Fall planting is a wonderful way to be ahead of the game come springtime. Plus, dividing plants presents an opportunity for sharing your love of gardening with friends and loved ones.
Equipment
Clean out lawn equipment before storing for the winter. Your lawnmower is an obvious first step, but don’t forget about the weed whacker and other gas run tools. Also, this is the perfect time to be ahead of the curve and (dare we say it??) make sure your snow blower is working. Don’t forget to turn off our hose valves to help prevent pipes from winter freezing.
